My! O! My! It got down to 20F the other night. I thought South Carolina had a law against that?? Shaving cream froze on me and the camping gas wouldn’t work. I cured that by training my tent heater on the gas bottle for a while, without any sudden side-effects.

Today was a remarkable improvement – quite a heat-wave I believe. I returned to Brookgreen Gardens across the road and finished off a 11″ x 14″ canvas containing a shower of lights bristling in the winter foliage.

And this is the middle of winter! I made a decision, hopefully sustainable, to explore intimately the transformation from winter into spring here and if the gardens look as good as they do in the dead, how much more when things start bursting into life!

These are still oils as I am trying to build up a head of steam for doing watercolors – a medium totally different in behavior – perhaps more suited to my unpredictable personality. Give me another week before watercolors start appearing.

Wilkes Art Gallery NC are going to host a show of my paintings on the current series in April/May – more details as they become available.
