Jerusalem from Mount Scopus

16" x 20" oil on canvas

commentary on recent paintings

jerusalem has always held a fascination for the artist. here we see the city from an elevated position on mount scopus, south of the mount of olives, in the evening sunlight

i enjoy the interaction between direct and reflected rays, lights and shadows and the pulls between complimentary colors that work in the mind of the observer

the contours of the topography add further modelling to the sense of depth

it ought to be an emotional experience,
after all
